We received a call from a customer who has an existing a panel lift door that was no longer operational. They couldn’t get their garage door open whether it be in Automatic or Manual Mode.
This is a sign of possible Broken Springs on a panel lift door.
Upon inspection at the Northlakes home, we noticed the Panel lift door had broken torsion springs. Torsion Springs break as they have reached the cycle count in which they are made to reach. There are also several other factors however this is the most common reason.
We attended site for repairs by replacing both torsion springs, we serviced and attempted to adjust the automatic opener to control the newly repaired garage door.
We found the Automatic garage door opener was not working, with the probable cause a burnt-out motor. This would be caused by the customer not noticing the torsion springs on the panel lift door were broken and continued to open and close the garage door until the panel lift door became no longer operational.
As we were already onsite repairing, we offered the customer a decent price of a new automatic garage door opener and installed on the spot.
The customer was extremely happy with our service.
Over time our torsion springs and cables stretch and the tension becomes loose. Re tension of torsion springs and lubrication of cables is required yearly to prevent break downs and errors. Every Panel lift door becomes heavy for both you to manually lift and your automatic opener to lift if your torsion springs are not at the correct tension.
*PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TENSION TORSION SPRING YOURSELF.
This applies to all garage doors whether it be a tilt door, roller door or panel lift door.
If your automatic garage door opener is forced to work harder and lift a much heavier garage door this is cost you a lot more money than just a service.
To find out if your garage door need re tensioning we test how heavy the door is to lift in manual mode.
You can put your automatic garage door opener into manual mode by pulling the cord (usually red) to engage manual mode.
Whilst the panel lift door is in the down position, manually lift the panel lift door by hand.
If the door feels heavy to lift or you are struggling than think about how much your automatic opener would be struggling each time you open or close your garage door. (Please be sure to pull the cord again to engage automatic mode).
A simple service at a low cost can help resolve the issue and relieve the unnecessary strain to your automatic garage door opener.
If your Panel Lift Door is heavy and you need a cost-effective service or you too are having issues with your Garage door, call us to have a technician attend to site asap to minimise the damage to your garage door motor.
